Joanna is a Master of Environmental Management student at Duke University with interests in coastal resilience, urban adaptation, geospatial analysis, and natural hazards mitigation.
Her writing has appeared online and in print for The Guardian, Mongabay, Scalawag, Bit & Grain, The Epoch Times, Global Forest Reporting Network, Smart Growth Network, and more. She has presented collaborative research at the Association of American Geographers Annual Meeting, the Pacific Northwest Climate Science Conference, and the Water Education Summit.
Joanna won the 2015 "Follow the Farmer" writing contest sponsored by The Guardian and Rainforest Alliance. She traveled to Mexico to report on community-managed forestry.
Joanna graduated from Sewanee: The University of the South with a B.S. in Ecology, a minor in Anthropology, and a certificate in Watershed Science.
